Latest results signal recovery for Russian banks

Russian banks recovered the bulk of losses posted in 2022, but some of the biggest gains in profitability and total assets from 2023 financial statements were posted by the Russian subsidiaries of foreign-owned banks.

According to The Banker Database, Russia’s second and fourth largest banks by Tier 1 capital and assets, VTB Bank and Alfa Bank, returned to profitability last year, having posted losses in 2022.
