Strong growth has taken place in all key banking indicators: assets expanded by 58% to $852.9m in 2006, Tier 1 capital rose 30% to $43.1m and net profits rose by 67% to $10.1m. Improving profitability has also been maintained with RoE in 2006 reaching 30.2% and the cost/income ratio has been controlled at 57.2%.

The bank has continued to expand its branch network and at the end of September this year it served 82,700 customers through 24 branches in Albania and Greece. ABA has been at the forefront of technological innovation and introduced the first e-deposit through its internet banking module ABAflex. Strategically positioned around the capital city of Tirana, the bank is participating in the syndicated loans market. And the link with Intesa Sanpaolo is expected to build product and technical expertise.

Lorenzo Roncari, president and CEO, says: “I was pleased to win the Bank of the Year in Albania not for what we have achieved to become number one but more for what we are going to do and achieve in the coming years to remain number one. I am proud to say that our staff and management team are already looking forward to this new challenge.”

Lorenzo Roncari.
