Banpais has made good use of such advantages to improve processes and thereby its profitability. By increasing efficiency at the same time as growing its business – assets are up by more than 25% in the past year while non-performing loans have been reduced from 2.25% to 0.92% – Banpais has been able to significantly drive return on equity; this rose to 34.4% in 2007, compared with 23.62% in 2006.
In business banking, the bank has extended its loan portfolio in the small and medium-sized enterprises sector and has expanded its presence in syndicated loans. It has also made significant investments in technology; for example, it is implementing one of the largest private communications networks in central America to facilitate a broader range of products and services.
“Our mission is to be the bank in Honduras that satisfies our clients’ needs with responsibility, kindness and efficiency,” says executive president Lic María Selman. “Banpais is growing rapidly, thanks to the trust that the public have in us. Following our acquisition by Corporacion Bi, making us part of the biggest financial group in central America, surely the best is yet to come.”
