Mexico goes to the polls on Sunday, with several daunting challenges awaiting its new leader. Claudia Sheinbaum, the candidate from the ruling Morena party and formerly the mayor of Mexico City, remains the frontrunner to succeed President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the free-spending nationalist leader who has governed since 2018.

As of May 28, Sheinbaum held a 23-point lead over her main rival, businesswoman Xóchitl Gálvez, according to poll aggregation data from Oraculus.
