A decline in the Tier 1 capital of Australia’s largest banks has benefitted India’s lenders, which climb in this year’s Top 1000 rankings. 

The growing strength of India’s banks is exemplified with their strong performance in this year’s top 25 Asia-Pacific (excluding China and Japan) ranking. India’s HDFC Bank, the country’s biggest lender by market capitalisation, tops this year’s regional ranking, leapfrogging State Bank of India to the number one spot.
