Latam banks see divergent performances

Banks’ performance across Latin America and the Caribbean reflect varying domestic economic conditions

Lenders across Latin America and the Caribbean faced very different domestic economic conditions last year, with Brazil and Mexico outperforming, and Chile, Colombia and Peru notably lagging behind.

The list of the region’s largest 25 banks by Tier 1 capital confirms Brazil’s dominance, with eight names in the ranking, one more than the previous list, after Nubank made the cut this year.
