Banque et Caisse d’Epargne de l’EtatBanque et Caisse d’Epargne de l’Etat (BCEE) stands out as the doyen of Luxembourg’s financial institutions and one of the cornerstones of the country’s financial community. The bank is wholly owned by the Luxembourg State and it is the country’s only major financial institution without foreign shareholders.

The bank has the largest branch network in Luxembourg and, with 1800 staff, it is one of the country’s biggest employers. BCEE is the main bank for private clients, with a significant market share in all business areas, most notably in mortgage and consumer loans as well as savings deposits. It is also the top lender to local authorities.

BCEE offers a complete range of services for its international customers. Last year also confirmed BCEE’s lead position in the electronic banking market, with some 100,000 clients using its ‘S-net’ internet banking system. In recent months, BCEE continued its growth and showed a 36% increase in results as of June 2008.

Thanks to its prudent investment policy, the consequences of the current financial crisis on BCEE are very limited and have not seriously affected the bank’s profitability. The bank’s future strategy for growth is summed up by chairman and CEO Jean-Claude Finck, who says: “Continuously improving the quality of customer services will remain the bank’s primary concern for the future.” This policy was supported last year with the introduction of a customer relations management software tool designed to personalise customer relationships and enable staff to offer the products best adapted to each customer’s needs.
