The rise of emerging market banks

Data from The Banker Database shows that emerging market banks have been gradually, if at times unsteadily, gaining prominence in the global financial system. The Banker's research team computed the aggregate profits of the top 50 world banks over the past decade and analysed the profit share of Europe and the US.

For the past two consecutive years, the rise of emerging market banks has become much more defined, and the profits of the rest of the world have outstripped those of the US and Europe for the second year in a row.
