Australia’s banks are enjoying a period of strong capital adequacy, although tight monetary conditions and falling household spending may put pressure on the industry. 

Australia’s ranking of top five banks by Tier 1 capital is headed by Commonwealth Bank, despite the bank seeing a 4 per cent decline in Tier 1 capital to $44.88bn.
