UK high street banks gain ground against building societies

Major UK banks move up the performance ladder in this year's results

Investec Bank leads this year’s overall best performance ranking, thanks to leverage and capital-to-assets metrics that were better than its UK peers. The UK arm of the Anglo-South African conglomerate also scored well on liquidity and operational efficiency, which helped it secure an overall performance score of 5.66, and climb one position from last year’s table.

HSBC, the largest UK-based lender, scored 5.57 in terms of performance, and sits in second place in the ranking, climbing three positions from last year.
