US, Argentina and Mexico lead return on assets rankings

African banks also show notable results, with Nigeria’s GTBank leading the region

Lenders from the US, Argentina and Mexico achieved the highest return on asset ratios in The Banker’s Top 1000 World Banks ranking in 2024, while several African banks also performed well relative to their global peers. 

Ohio-based United National Corporation scores the highest RoA of any institution in the overall ranking for the fourth year running, at 9.81 per cent. However, this marks a significant decrease from 2023, when it achieved a double-digit return on assets of 14.45 per cent.
