Last March UK building society Nationwide announced its intention to acquire Virgin Money UK for £2.9bn. The acquisition has since been confirmed by both Nationwide members and Virgin Money shareholders.

Once completed, Nationwide would combine its 17mn customers with 6.6mn of Virgin Money’s, acquire 91 additional branches, and become the country’s second-largest mortgage and savings group by market share.
