Female-led Zambian microfinance start-up Lupiya received microfinance licences in Zambia in 2016 and in Tanzania earlier this year. The neobank, which is looking at a further series B funding round next year, is planning to expand into other southern African markets.

Evelyn Kaingu, Lupiya’s co-founder and chief executive, spoke to The Banker about Zambia’s fintech landscape, the gendered lens influencing Lupiya’s growth, and the company’s plans to become a pan-African neobank.
